What Are
Exosomes?
Exosomes are tiny particles naturally released by cells.
Messengers between cells
They carry proteins, lipids and genetic material, such as RNA, from one cell to another.
Part of normal repair
This cell-to-cell communication is part of how the body manages repair, inflammation and normal tissue function.
Why researchers are interested
Because exosomes carry signals between cells, researchers are studying whether they could one day be used to support the body’s natural processes. Much of this research is still in early stages.
Areas of
Current Research
This research is ongoing, and larger controlled studies in people are still needed.

Aging
Researchers are studying how cell communication changes as we age and whether exosomes may play a role in tissue repair and skin quality.

Overall Health
Studies are examining the role of exosomes in the body’s natural inflammatory and healing responses.

Joint Health
Early laboratory and clinical studies are exploring the role of exosomes in cartilage and joint inflammation. More research is needed.

Brain Health
Scientists are investigating how exosomes communicate with nerve cells and whether they may be useful in future research on brain function.
