What's Actually Inside Our Dallas Chiropractic Office
A patient called Dr. Currington's Dallas office "a playground." Here's what's in it, from adjustments and decompression to laser therapy, cupping and rehab.
One of our patients wrote in a Google review that the office is "a playground of physical therapy equipment and experiences." It made us laugh, and it's a fair description. If you picture a chiropractor as a quick crack and out the door, the room tends to surprise people.
Here's what's in it, and what each thing is for.
It Starts with an Exam
Before any equipment comes out, Dr. Currington does a physical exam and takes any X-rays you need. Then you go over the results and your goals together and build a plan. That plan decides which of the tools below you'll actually use. Most people won't use all of them.
Chiropractic Adjustments
The adjustment is still the core of what we do. It's a controlled, precise push to a spinal joint that has stopped moving the way it should. Dr. Currington adjusts by hand or with a specialized instrument, depending on your spine, your condition and your overall health. Most patients feel no pain. Some notice slight discomfort that fades right after.
Spinal Decompression
The decompression table has separate upper and lower sections. You're fitted with a harness, and while you lie on the table, the lower section moves slowly to gently stretch the spine. A computer program, set up and supervised by our staff, alternates between stretching and relaxing. It's used for disc problems like herniated and bulging discs, and it's one of Dr. Currington's special interests. More in What Is Spinal Decompression, and Who Is It For?
Laser Therapy
Cold laser therapy, also called low-level laser therapy, uses specific wavelengths of light. A small device is held over the sore area for anywhere from 30 seconds to several minutes, and it warms the tissue very little, if at all. It's one of several approaches at the clinic that can help ease pain symptoms.
Cupping and Deep Tissue Massage
Massage here can go beyond standard strokes. Deep tissue work uses firmer, focused pressure on chronic tension and stiff spots, and cupping is one of the techniques it can include. It's done by a licensed massage therapist on our team.
Physical Rehab
Rehab is the part you take home. It targets muscle imbalances, weakness and restricted range of motion with exercises for strength and flexibility, including ones you can keep doing between visits. Dr. Currington also teaches posture and everyday habits that help prevent the next injury.
A Few More
Dry needling and lymphatic drainage are offered too. Like everything else, each one starts with an exam.
Why So Much Stuff?
Because two people with "back pain" rarely have the same problem. One might need decompression for a disc. Another might need adjustments and rehab for how they sit all day. Having the tools in one office means the plan can follow the exam, not the other way around.
